Fifty years of maximal monotonicity

چکیده
Maximal monotone operator theory is about to turn (or just has turned) fifty. I intend to briefly survey the history of the subject. I shall try to explain why maximal monotone operators are both interesting and important—culminating with a description of the remarkable progress made during the past decade.

Sum Formula for Maximal Abstract Monotonicity and Abstract Rockafellar’s Surjectivity Theorem
In this paper, we present an example in which the sum of two maximal abstract monotone operators is maximal. Also, we shall show that the necessary condition for Rockafellar’s surjectivity which was obtained in ([19], Theorem 4.3) can be sufficient.
متن کاملThe sum of two maximal monotone operator is of type FPV
In this paper, we studied maximal monotonicity of type FPV for sum of two maximal monotone operators of type FPV and the obtained results improve and complete the corresponding results of this filed.
متن کاملMaximal Monotonicity of Dense Type, Local Maximal Monotonicity, and Monotonicity of the Conjugate Are All the Same for Continuous Linear Operators
The concept of a monotone operator — which covers both linear positive semi-definite operators and subdifferentials of convex functions — is fundamental in various branches of mathematics. Over the last few decades, several stronger notions of monotonicity have been introduced: Gossez’s maximal monotonicity of dense type, Fitzpatrick and Phelps’s local maximal monotonicity, and Simons’s monoton...
متن کاملGeneral Framework for Proximal Point Algorithms on (a, Η)-maximal Monotonicity for Nonlinear Variational Inclusions
General framework for proximal point algorithms based on the notion of (A, η)-maximal monotonicity (also referred to as (A, η)monotonicity in literature) is developed. Linear convergence analysis for this class of algorithms to the context of solving a general class of nonlinear variational inclusion problems is successfully achieved along with some results on the generalized resolvent correspo...
متن کاملThe sum of a maximal monotone operator of type (FPV) and a maximal monotone operator with full domain is maximal monotone
The most important open problem in Monotone Operator Theory concerns the maximal monotonicity of the sum of two maximal monotone operators provided that Rockafellar’s constraint qualification holds. In this paper, we prove the maximal monotonicity of A+B provided that A and B are maximal monotone operators such that domA ∩ int domB ̸= ∅, A+NdomB is of type (FPV), and domA∩domB ⊆ domB. The proof ...
